Topics/questions that will be discussed include:  

 During this session we will discuss what pre-departure orientation is and share ideas for what is working well at your institutions and what challenges you face. Specific topics for conversation will include:

  • General structure of pre-departure orientation (how long, how many, incorporating study abroad alum, etc.)
  • Balancing content in online and in-person pre-departure orientation (what tools are you using?)
  • How country-specific do you get in pre-departure orientation?
  • Collaboration with other departments for pre-departure (i.e. Multi-cultural center, counseling center, financial aid, etc.)
  • Parents and pre-departure orientation
  • We want to hear from you! What is your institution doing?

What is “What’s Up, Wisconsin?”

What’s Up, Wisconsin? is a conversation series sponsored by the Wisconsin Association of International Educators (WAIE) featuring a wide variety of international education topics, including but not limited to Education Abroad, International Student and Scholar Services, Intensive English Programs, and International Enrollment Management/Recruitment.

These phone conversations are offered free of charge to WAIE members and generally last one hour. Specific topics will be identified for each monthly conversation to be held on Wednesday's throughout the academic year from 3:00-4:00 p.m. CDT.

WAIE will now be sending bi-weekly newsletters that will contain updates about WAIE, relevant NAFSA and Region V news, grant opportunities, and international education job announcements. 

If you have a job posting or other relevant announcement that you would like shared with the WAIE membership, please submit it to our Membership & Communications Coordinator by the 1st or 3rd Friday of the month.   Newsletters will be emailed to the membership during the 2nd and 4th weeks of each month.  General guidelines for newsletter submissions:  

  • When sending job announcements, please provide the following: Name of hiring institution/organization, position title, link to more information, and deadline to submit applications.  Note: We will not be able to share attachments with the membership.
  • We will share information about professional development opportunities that are relevant to the field of international education and either take place in Wisconsin or are sponsored by a Wisconsin-based organization.
  • Please note that we do not share information or advertise specific study abroad programs or other student programs to the membership in our newsletters.
