Sara Friar

Chair: Sara Friar

Edgewood College

Began term 2017 (Former Membership Coordinator 2013-2017)

Sara Friar is the Co-Director of the Center for Global Education at Edgewood College in Madison, WI, where she directs the international student services and study abroad programs.  She has worked in the field of international education for over 10 years leading programs and advising international and study abroad students.  She has a doctorate in Higher Educational Leadership, a master’s degree in International Education, and bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and Psychology.  Sara served as the WAIE membership coordinator for 4 years before transitioning to the Chair stream.  She has also served on the NAFSA Region V team as the Conference Chair.  When not working, Sara enjoys hiking, doing yoga, taking leisurely bike rides, travelling, and spending time with her family.

Past-Chair: Sarah Christensen
UW-Fox Valley
Began term 2013 & 2017

Former Role: Chair Elect & IT Liaison 

Sarah Christensen is the International Student Coordinator at UW-Fox Valley. Prior to this position, she was the International Student Advisor at UW Oshkosh. Before entering the world of higher education, Sarah worked in the non-profit world for 10 years in Youth Development. She "accidentally" began both of her career paths in Chihuahua, Mexico where she spent a summer volunteering with children at a YMCA while an undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. After living in San Diego for 6 years with her husband, she moved back to Wisconsin and earned her master's degree in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Global Education. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, especially chasing her three year old son.


Chair-Elect: Rachel Haos

Alverno College
Began term 2016 (Former Treasurer 2016-2018)

Rachel Haos is the International Program Director at Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI. She has worked in higher education for over fifteen years. She earned her undergraduate degree in French and International Studies at UW-Stevens Point. During her undergraduate program, she studied abroad in Caen, France. She earned her master's degree from the UW-Milwaukee in Cultural Foundations of Education. She also holds a graduate certificate in Mediation and Dispute Resolution from Marquette University. She considers herself a lifelong learner and has continued to take courses in languages and other areas just for fun and personal enrichment.


Two Year College Representative: Danielle Clarizio
Began term 2017

Danielle Clarizio is the Senior Student Affairs Coordinator & International Programs Director at UW-Marinette. Prior to this position, she served as the Program Coordinator at the Institute for Study Abroad-Butler University in Edinburgh, Scotland. Prior to that role, Danielle worked as a Team Leader in PR and Marketing for Sandeman's New Europe Tours and as the City Manager for Edinburgh. While in the US, Danielle has worked as a Residence Life Director, Assistant Director and Community Advisor at Augustana.


Education Abroad Representative: Kelsey McDaniels
UW Oshkosh
Began term 2017

Kelsey McDaniels has been the Study Away Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh since 2014. While pursuing her undergraduate degree in French Language and Literature, she spent a semester abroad on the European Odyssey program which took her to five countries over three months. Prior to starting her career in International Education, Kelsey worked as a bilingual customer service representative where she answered calls from Canada in English and French. A self-proclaimed Europhile, she has been back to Europe three times since her study abroad experience. This past summer, she got engaged to her long-term boyfriend while traveling in Italy.


ESL Representative: Amy Jacobson
UW Oshkosh
Began term 2017

Amy Jacobson has been the Intensive English Program Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh since 2013.  Before coming to UWO, Amy worked as an ESL instructor and program coordinator in Wisconsin’s technical colleges for 13 years – working hard to help ESL students bridge into degree programs.  Though there aren’t many chances to travel abroad while raising 3 daughters, Amy makes world-wide connections daily with the international students and visitors on campus.  Through tutoring and conversation, she learns about their home countries and cultures first-hand.




ISSS-Programming Representative: Shannon Jolly
Beloit College
Began term 2015

Shannon Jolly joins us from Beloit College, where she serves as the Assistant Director and International Student Advisor in the Office of International Education. She has served on the Region IV Team as the state representative from North Dakota, has been involved with the NAFSA Trainer Corps since 2008, and volunteered at several regional conferences.


Membership & Communications Coordinator: Liz Kruse
Began term 2017 (Former ISSS-Regulations Representative 2014-2017)

Liz Kruse began working at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville as the International Student and Scholar Advisor in October of 2011 and became the Assistant Director of International Programs in December 2014. Prior to beginning her career in International Student and Scholar Services, Liz was a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Madrid, Spain, and earned her Master’s degree in Comparative and International Development Education from the University of Minnesota.  Liz completed the NAFSA Academy in 2013 and is a qualified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI).  Liz enjoys running, hiking, reading, playing piano, napping, being outdoors, learning new languages, being involved in the community, and spending time with her family and friends.


Admissions/Recruitment Representative: Katerina Roskina
China Credential Services LLC
Began term 2016

Katerina is a Russia- and China-educated Mandarin Chinese linguist, an ESL educator, an experienced comparative education professional, and the founder of China Credential Services. Her professional background is in Chinese-English translation, ESL instruction and curriculum design in China, and credential evaluation in the US. A former Beijing Sports University and New Oriental (Beijing) instructor, a Microsoft (China) consultant and an Educational Credential Evaluators China specialist, Katerina strongly believes in providing individuals educated in China with more straightforward pathways to US education and employment, and US educational institutions and employers with tools to better serve those individuals.

Miranda Panzer

Treasurer: Miranda Panzer
University of Wisconsin-La Crosse
Began term 2018

Miranda Panzer, born and raised in Wisconsin, has been working in international education since Fall 2010 and has been an international student advisor since October 2012. She currently serves as one of the primary resources for international students and scholars at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. During her undergraduate career, she studied abroad for a year in Frankfurt, Germany, at Goethe Universität. Students and colleagues benefit from her unique global experiences in Austria, Belgium, China, Cuba, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Scotland, and Switzerland. In her free time, Miranda enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, hiking, listening to music, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. With the love of travel, she dreams of visiting every country. Miranda's favorite quote is "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you'll land amongst the stars" (Les Brown).

Samantha McCabe

Social Media/Website Coordinator: Samantha McCabe
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Began term 2017

Samantha McCabe currently serves as Assistant Director for SEVIS Compliance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she just finished her master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in Global Higher Education. She earned her BA in International Relations with a focus in African Studies from Beloit College in 2010. Samantha has over five years of experience in the field of international education, including one year as an ESL instructor in Brazil, two years as international recruiter and admissions counselor, and over three years as an international student advisor. More recently, Samantha has focused her efforts on curriculum development and blended learning to provide more comprehensive cultural and regulatory resources for international students. In her spare time, Samantha serves an executive board member of a community organization, Madison Friends of International Students, which provides resources to connect international students to the community and assist with their adjustment to Madison. In addition, she enjoys playing sand volleyball, visiting Wisconsin state parks, and exploring different cultures and countries through food and social exchange. 

McSorley, Leah

ISSS Regulatory Representative: Leah McSorley
Lawrence University
Began term 2018

Leah McSorley is the Associate Dean of Students for International Student Services at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI.  Leah has worked as an international student advisor for over eight years.  Prior to coming to Lawrence, Leah worked at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.  Leah holds a B.A. in Communication Studies and Spanish, an M.A. in Comparative and International Development Education, and an Ed.D. in Higher Educational Leadership.  In her free time, Leah enjoys gardening, reading, yoga, learning new things, and spending time with family.

WAIE Registered Agent & WAIE Chair Stream Emeritus: Stephanie Belmas
Madison Area Technical College
Former Role: Chair from 2013-2015

The Registered Agent does not technically serve on the WAIE Leadership Team, but simply functions as the organization’s official addressee on the records of the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI). Accordingly, the Registered Agent receives an annual reminder that WAIE needs to file a report to inform the state that WAIE, Inc. continues to exist and to provide a list of the current Leadership Team members.

Stephanie is the Senior International Student Specialist for Madison College. She began working in International Student Services in 2000 at UW-Madison and was hired by Madison College in 2008 to start their international student program. Among other adventures, she has played rugby in Scotland, sold fruit in Switzerland, and backpacked in Tasmania. Having been involved with WAIE in a variety of roles over the years, including WAIE Chair in 2014, she is pleased to serve as Registered Agent to assist with maintaining continuity of records for WAIE, Inc.
